How to choose a UGC creator for your first campaign

Turn a campaign goal into a shortlist: compare audience fit, portfolio examples and production requirements before requesting a quote.

Start with the job the video needs to do

Write one sentence describing the intended result: explain a product, answer a common objection, or introduce a brand. Then choose the platform and placement. A product demonstration needs clear shots of the product in use; an introduction may need a confident speaker. Avoid choosing on appearance alone.

  • Product demonstration: ask for examples with close-ups and a clear sequence of steps.
  • Lifestyle use: look for a setting that resembles how your customer uses the product.
  • Spokesperson: review voice, pacing and how naturally the creator explains a message.

Watch the portfolio with a specific checklist

Open the original Fiverr profile and review relevant examples. A profile rating is context; it does not tell you whether the creator can deliver your particular concept. Ask which examples represent work they can produce for your budget.

  • Can you understand the opening message without extra context?
  • Is speech clear, and is the product easy to see?
  • Does the tone match your brand and intended audience?
  • Does the example demonstrate the setting, format and editing you need?

Use audience fit as a starting point

Our shortlist includes Gen-Z, product/lifestyle and Gen-X positioning from public listings. These labels help narrow a search, but they do not establish who will respond to an ad. Review the actual delivery style and ask for a relevant sample rather than assuming age alone determines performance.

Send the same scope to your finalists

Compare two or three creators using the same video count, length, platform, usage request and deadline. Ask each to separate included work from optional charges. A lower starting price is not necessarily a lower quote for the same finished project.

  • Explain the product and intended audience.
  • Share one useful reference and describe what you like about it.
  • Request a written scope and total quote.
  • Confirm filming can begin after the product arrives.

Example: a first product demonstration

Suppose a small shop needs one vertical video showing how a kitchen tool works. Prioritize a suitable kitchen setting, visible product handling and clear explanation. Ask for a hook, demonstration and closing line. Compare quotes for that exact scope before adding extra hooks or formats. This is a planning example, not a price estimate or performance promise.

Put the checklist to work

Draft your scope, then use it to compare the creators you are considering.
